LAKE WORTH PLAYHOUSE
NON-EQUITY, NON-PAID
Hair
Director/Choreographer, Robert Dawson
Seeking singers and actors of all ethnicities to play members of ‘the tribe’, a group of spirited hippies who protest the war in Vietnam and celebrate free love, spiritual enlightenment and racial equality.
Hair will be directed and choreographed by Carbonell Award nominee Robert Dawson, and will begin rehearsal in late May and open on July 18th, 2008.
All roles are open.
Please prepare a song in the pop, rock or rhythm & blues style. A pianist will be provided. You must have sheet music or a CD without someone singing. Bring clothing and appropriate footwear for a brief movement audition. You may also be asked to read from the script.
Because Hair contains adult language and brief (non-sexual) nudity, allcastmembers must be at least 18 years old.

The Naked Truth
(Please Read Before Auditioning!)
The characters in Hair ("the tribe") are young people trying to discover a new way of living that is different from the way their parents live. They want to live peacefully, in harmony with the earth. They want to express their love freely and explore spirituality (with the occasional assistance of mind-altering drugs). Nudity has traditionally been used in Hair to show the characters' desire to be free from modesty and body shame. They do not remove their clothes onstage to be seductive. They do not concern themselves with looking perfect. They know their bodies are beautiful. JUST AS THEY ARE.
For most people, the idea of being onstage naked is frightening. In rehearsal and performance there will be strict rules to make sure that you are treated with professionalism and respect. There will be no physical contact. there will be no ogling or comments. You will always be in control.
* Nudity is not a requirement for participation in Hair. In fact, nudity is
not even an option for a few members of the tribe.
* All Hair cast members must be able to prove they are at least
18 years old because of the nudity and mature language.
* You will not be asked to disrobe at the audition.
* Even if you agree to appear naked in Hair, it is a daily decision.
On Friday you might go 'full monty', on Saturday you might keep
your pants on, and on Sunday (when your mother attends the
matinee) you might remain fully dressed.
* Please keep in mind that tattoos, piercings and Brazilian waxes do
not reflect the time period of the 1960s. Please be honest. Can we
cover it, remove it, or let it grow back?
