A group class for aspiring musical theatre youth to gain valuable experience in both dancing and singing for the stage in the style of Broadway. Students may expect to explore their musical ranges and learn at least 16 bars from contrasting genres of music to use on auditions. Students will also learn the basic steps from various styles of dance. This course is co-instructed by a choreographer and voice instructor.

Sunday, December 16 - 10-2pm in the Rehearsal Hall

This class will prepare youth interested in auditioning for theatre or communications at Bak or Dreyfoos School of the Arts by finding and preparing appropriate audition materials as outlined by the school and sharpening skills necessary for the audition process.

*Bring folder, notebook paper, copy paper, pen and a pencil.

BAK COMMUNICATIONS: Students should come prepared with an idea for their original product or advertisement will get the most out of the workshop. Students who have written their news report should NOT have it memorized.

BAK THEATRE: Students may bring monologues ONLY from published plays. If you do not have one, one will be provided for you. Students who want to sing are encouraged to bring 30 seconds of a Broadway song with no recorded music.

DREYFOOS COMMUNICATIONS: Students may pre-prepare by bringing a speech but it should NOT be memorized.

DREYFOOS THEATRE: Students are encouraged to bring monologues from published plays, a Broadway song with recorded music, and/or a technical project. Please refer to school guidelines for theatre.

Sunday, January 13 - 10-2pm in the Rehearsal Hall
Sunday, January 20 - 10-2pm in the Rehearsal Hall

Youth should come with audition materials already prepared. Youth will be evaluated and given constructive criticism to enhance their audition skills, material, and performance. The day will culminate in a mock jury of industry professionals that will judge students in the format of the art school auditions. Parents will be able to view the jury session of the workshop. Parents and students should be aware of the most current Bak and Dreyfoos Theatre and Communications requirements.

*Parents may come for the jury at 12 p.m. Students should be prepared with appropriate materials as they would for their audition and familiar with the school requirements for their desired major.

 
 
 

Private Lessons are available for all class offerings.  Please call 561-586-6410 for availability. 

Private lessons begin at $50/hour.
