This class is designed to prepare students for auditions, performance and life skills – such as confidence, communication (verbal and nonverbal), listening and focusing skills and ability to share ideas creatively. This class is designed for the beginning actor. Students will learn the fundamentals of acting through exercises in imagination, body movement, voice and improv. Students will learn how to perform a monologue and scene work. Students will perform a showcase on the Lake Worth Playhouse mainstage.

Intermediate Acting (Act II) – Taught by Lara Williams- Palmer

This class is designed for actors with limited to intermediate stage experience looking to make their performances more organic and believable. We will explore character and relationships with other characters.  Students will work on monologue preparation as well as scene study. Students will perform on the Lake Worth Playhouse mainstage a showcase of their work for family and friends. All those registering for this class should have some performance experience or have had some kind of beginning acting class.

Improv fun for Kids – Taught by Laura Graham

In this class, we will play lots of great theatre games and exercises where you get to use your imagination and creativity. We will also make-up fun characters, stories, and scenes using skills we will learn from the improv games. This class is about finding your voice on stage, building characters, working as a team, and getting over stage-fright. Everyone gets to work at their own level and have fun! What you learn in improv will surely help with all your acting endeavors!

Overview:
Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos. Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him.  Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Overview:
Anemone, an adventurous little mermaid, leaves her undersea realm for a sixteenth birthday excursion to the surface.  She hopes to find the prince of her dreams, whose statue she has found.  Accompanied by her friend, Clem Clam, they begin their quest.  But a jealous Sea-Witch threatens Anemone.  In fact, Rip-Tide and Zip-Tide, the witch’s nasty shark cohorts, terrorize all.  The Sea-Witch magically conjures up a storm which sinks a ship carrying the prince.  Anemone dives into the waves to save him, but not before she has been tricked into trading her voice to the Sea-Witch.  As he recovers from his ordeal, the prince believes Georgina, who discovered him on the rocks, saved him.  The prince declares to all that she will be his wife…  a fitting ’thank you.’ Meanwhile, the prince has befriended the voiceless Anemone while Georgina resists the impending marriage because her heart belongs to another.  Patience, love and friendship solve this delightful romantic puzzle.  The Sea-Witch is punished, and Anemone and the prince are happily wed.Age Range:  8-14
